Timetable & Additional Information -

Alternating week on, week off structure, alternating between nights and days.

Monday - Sunday working weeks.

80 h per fortnight.

Daily structure consists of:

Morning handover
-
Morning ward round
-
Admission of patients as they arrive
-
Performing tasks generated from ward round and admissions
-
Attending rapid response calls and emergency calls on the wards
-

Trainees will be under the close supervision of the ICU specialist staff.

Experience will include:
-
The assessment and management of critically ill patients with multi-system disease and the performance of practical procedures.
-
This will include the placement of invasive vascular lines, management of renal replacement therapy, management of patients undergoing mechanical ventilation and assorted other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Trainees will be encouraged to participate in the weekly teaching sessions and bi-monthly trainee educational days run at the co-located Royal North Shore Hospital.

General information of the hospital -

The North Shore Private (NSP) Hospital is a 270-bed hospital providing acute medical and surgical services and is a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney.

The Intensive Care Unit of North Shore Private is a 19 bed multi-disciplinary intensive care unit (ICU) admitting more than 2000 patients annually, including cardiothoracic, neurosurgical and complex gastro-intestinal cases.
​

Patient care within the ICU is exclusively supervised by accredited Intensive Care Specialists all of whom are Fellows of the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
​

NSP ICU has been accredited for a period of six months of Intensive Care training by the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine.
